Do it first and feel about it afterwards. The reason she said this is that when you do something and feel really good about it, you should be able to tell yourself that even if you don't get the job or fail in any other way, you did something really great. It sounds like a lot of people don't think about the consequences of what they're doing. If they do, then they probably just feel bad about themselves. Most of the time, people don't do what they feel good doing at first because they're thinking about what will happen if they fail. And that's why I think Dagny says the opposite of what most people would say.
